But to diagnose the warning light, the important thing is to compare it with the engine running. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Measurement 2 \u2014 Voltage with the engine running (idle)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Start the engine and measure again at the terminals.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li><strong>Approx. 13.8\u201314.6 V<\/strong>: it is charging.<\/li>\n<li><strong>12.6\u201313.2 V<\/strong>: insufficient charging or a regulation\/wiring fault.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u224812 V<\/strong> (same as with the engine off): the alternator is not charging (or the belt is not driving it, or there is a wiring\/ground issue).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Measurement 3 \u2014 Voltage under load (real-world test)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Turn on the lights, rear window defogger, and blower fan.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>Normally it should stay close to <strong>13.5\u201314.5 V<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">If it drops to <strong>\u224812 V<\/strong>, the car is drawing from the battery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f70fb67 elementor-widget elementor-widget-wp-widget-text\" data-id=\"f70fb67\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"wp-widget-text.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5>3 &#8211;
